Over the coming 10 years up to €10 billion is expected to be spent on urban renewal in the area with a mixture of parks, emblematic buildings and the running of the sea up to the city’s emblematic “City of the Sciences” development. The desire of the Valencia Town Hall and mayoress Ms. Rita Barbera is to open the city to the sea as historically the city has had its back to the sea with the port area mainly being used for solely commercial activities. The plan is to have leisure craft and floating restaurants navigating the river with bars and restaurants on the river banks thereby bringing an air of Paris to the city.
2007 saw the arrival of sailing’s Olympics the America’s Cup to the city which was an unprecedented success with a pre investment of more than half a billion Euros in the city’s new marina named after Spain’s much loved King : Juan Carlos 1st Marina. This marina is now the biggest marina in the Med having overtaken Monaco. At the moment it is possible that the America’s Cup will again return to the city around 2011 depending on the final outcome of the ongoing legal action between B.M.W. Oracle and Alinghi in the American Courts.
For those wishing to maximize their capital gain, old style apartments to be totally renovated are the properties to go for. While there are a number of these properties in the Camins al Grau area they are very much in the minority which further adds to their attractiveness.
