Valencia's international appeal grows from stength to strength and its standing
amongst Europe's most visited cities all the more noteworthy. Already this
year 457,000 people have visited the city in the first three months of the
year an increase of 32.5% over the same period last year. Valencia is now Spain's
third most visited city and Europe's 15th. This year 2 million visitors are
expected. The city itself has a population of 800,000 inhabitants.
Easter week saw 100% occupancy in the city's 3, 4 and 5 star hotels. Demand
is all year round reflecting the city's increasing allure due in no small way
to its all year round sunshine, seaside location facing the mediterranean,
Europe's biggest acquarium the Ocenographic and the futuristic City of the
Sciences comprising a science museum and opera house as well as an Imax cinema
in a building resembling a human eye.
Valencia is now Europe's fastest growing city re tourist numbers and this year
sees sailing's Olympics the America's Cup drop anchor in the city with an investment
of over Euro1 billion in infrastructure with over Euro400 million being spent
on the marina making it Europe's biggest marina surpassing Monaco which used
to be number 1.300 million viewers are expected to tune in to the America's
Cup thus bringing the virtues of Valencia to an ever greater audience most
of them well heeled.
Next year sees Formula 1 come to Valencia in the autumn under the name of the European
Grand Prix. A global tv audience of 500 million is projected with the city
gaining in the region of Euro70 million in tourist revenues from the event. An
urban circuit based around the marina is planned, going up to the City of the
Sciences which will make for breathtaking aerial footage. Formula 1 will be
coming to Valencia for at least 7 years, with Valencia paying Euro26 million
to Mr. Bernie Ecclestone for the rights to stage the event.
Cruise ships will bring a projected 200,000 tourists to the city this year
doubling last year's numbers. One of the world's most prestigious cruise ships
named The World appropriately will visit on June 24 to July 6th having previously
visited the city in 2005 during an America's Cup pre regatta. She is returning
due to the request of the ship's residents the people who own the 220 house
like cabins on the luxurious liner. The world's second biggest liner called The
Brilliance of the Sea will bring 2,500 tourists to the city this year alone.
All of this is great news for all those non resident city property owners especially
those who bought in the city's best areas and reinforces the allure of Valencia
