Valencia becomes European Capital of Sport 2011

Valencia has yet again made history on being awarded the much merited accolade of European Capital of Sport for 2011. The sporting city on the Med had to fight off stiff competition from such acclaimed sporting centres as Barcelona as well as Brussels, Budapest & Birmingham. Milan is presently the holder of the prestigious award.

Valencia can chiefly thank the ever growing number of world class sporting events that it has successfully attracted to the city over the past number of years such as Formula 1, the America’s Cup, A.T.P. Tennis as well as Showjumpings Premier Global Champions’ Tour.

Valencia will be home to a “European Centre of Sports’ Investigation” which will be housed in the Pechina Sports’ Centre in the city. In addition the city will host a congress on Municipal Sport.
